The power of the Dutch battery ecosystem

The Netherlands is taking a strong position in the European and international battery value chain. The country is known for its high tech industry, where multiple high tech disciplines are strengthening each other. Build on years of knowledge and expertise in micro- and nano electronics, such as thin-film deposition and a strong academic focus on researching next generation battery technologies. These high tech competences result in a strong battery ecosystem. Empowered by an open innovation climate, the Netherlands is home to multiple promising start and scale ups in complex equipment, next generation cell components and systems, and solid state batteries.

Focus areas

International cooperation is key in developing next generation battery components and equipment. The Battery Competence Cluster – NL is the innovation program for companies, knowledge institutions and organizations that want to aqcuire knowledge and innovate in the field of battery technology.

Focus areas for the Netherlands in the international battery value chain are:

  1. New battery materials and cells
  2. Circularity
