The Innovation Architect Battery Production Technology complements the Innovation Architect Materials & Cells and the Innovation Architect Pack & System Integration. Together, they form the technical backbone of BCC‑NL. This role focuses on the full spectrum of battery cell and module production technologies—from recycling to mixing and electrode manufacturing to cell assembly and formation/ aging and integration in packs or modules.

Role Overview

The Innovation Architect Battery Production Technology complements the Innovation Architect Materials & Cells and the Innovation Architect Pack & System Integration. Together, they form the technical backbone of BCC‑NL. This role focuses on the full spectrum of battery cell and module production technologies—from recycling to mixing and electrode manufacturing to cell assembly and formation/ aging and integration in packs or modules.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the national roadmap for advanced battery production technologies. Identify blind spots and opportunities
  • Provide technical guidance across all production steps for KPI in: mixing, coating, drying, calendaring, slitting, stacking/winding, formation, aging, and module/pack assembly.
  • Facilitate and coordinate expert groups involving OEMs, machine builders, automation integrators, high‑tech suppliers and R&D partners.
  • Identify innovation opportunities in equipment engineering, digital twins, inline metrology, robotics, automation and high‑throughput manufacturing.
  • Advise on technical feasibility, project development, and funding programmes (e.g. NGF, Horizon Europe, IPCEI).
  • Strengthen national and European positioning through active involvement in EU expert groups and industrial alliances.

Profile & Competencies

  • MSc/PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, Industrial Design Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in battery cell production is a must and module production, high‑tech machinery, precision engineering or automated manufacturing systems is a pre.
  • Ability to oversee complex technical systems and translate them into coherent strategic roadmaps.
  • Strong communication skills, able to interface with industry, government bodies and knowledge partners.
  • Structured, analytical and capable of working in a dynamic multi‑stakeholder environment.
