From Strategy to Action: Shaping the Future of the Dutch Battery Ecosystem | The Dutch battery ecosystem is entering a new phase. During this session, the key outcomes of the revised National Battery Systems Action Agenda will be presented, followed by a discussion on how this agenda provides the strategic foundation for the second phase of the National Growth Fund programme Material Independence & Circular Batteries (MICB). Together with representatives from BCC-NL, the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (I&W) and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs (EZK), we will explore how government, industry and knowledge institutions are working together to strengthen a competitive, resilient and future-proof Dutch battery ecosystem. What strategic priorities have been identified? How will these priorities be translated into concrete programmes and investments? BMS technology - should the Netherlands take the lead? | In battery pack development the Battery Management System is becoming increasingly important, to obtain higher C-rates, faster charging and increased lifetime of the battery it is of major importance that the battery is managed in an optimal way. The Netherlands features multiple companies that are focusing on the technology surrounding BMS, at a OEM-level but also arising from start-ups and student teams. Also there are multiple companies at a european level diving deep into the BMS technology, like for example at our eastern neighbours. During this panel discussion session we will have 5 companies of different origin on the podium and we will have the possibility to obtain knowledge on what innovations are currently happening at the BMS level, what the future will offer and how the different companies and strategies will lead to different outcomes. From Research to Next-Generation Batteries: Insights from BatteryNL and NANEXBAT | What are the latest scientific developments in battery research in the Netherlands, and which research questions will shape the next generation of battery technologies? This session brings together researchers from BatteryNL and NANEXBAT to share recent findings and look ahead to the next steps in battery research. We will start with the broader scientific challenges addressed within BatteryNL and related research programmes such as NEXTGen, followed by in-depth presentations from PhD researchers highlighting specific results from their work and the questions that will guide further research. The session will then broaden the perspective with NANEXBAT, providing a first glimpse into emerging research directions in sodium-ion battery technology and the scientific challenges that still need to be addressed.  Moderation: Elena Orlova | Rijksuniversiteit Groningen: Moniek Tromp, TU Delft: Marnix Wagemakers, Universiteit Twente: Mark Huijben

Battery Capacity-Building for the Industrialisation Future | The objective of the Human Capital breakout session during Battery Day is twofold. First, we aim to present inspiring examples of Human Capital activities within the National Growth Fund project Material Independence and Circular Batteries (MICB) across different educational levels, including vocational education (MBO), higher professional education and lifelong learning (HBO/LLO), university education (WO), and company training programs. Second, we want to demonstrate how these activities contribute to various links in the battery value chain, such as recycling, cell testing, and battery applications for both automotive and stationary energy storage. Battery Cell Production Technologies: Challenges and Opportunities for European Collaboration | Europe is investing heavily in battery cell manufacturing capacity, yet significant challenges remain in scaling production efficiently, improving flexibility, reducing costs, and accelerating the deployment of next-generation technologies. During this session, experts from industry, research organizations, and innovation ecosystems will discuss the current state of battery cell manufacturing and the key technological bottlenecks that continue to impact competitiveness and industrial growth. Together with leading representatives from Germany and the Netherlands, we will explore where innovation in production equipment, process technologies, automation, digitalization, and metrology is most urgently needed. Which manufacturing challenges require new technology solutions? Where do opportunities exist for cross-border collaboration?
