Dutch Battery Cluster Strengthens Ties with Czech Partners During Strategic Visit

Earlier this month, the Battery Competence Cluster NL (BCC-NL) participated in a high-level mission to the Czech Republic, focusing on collaboration in battery technology, e-mobility, and clean mobility strategies. The visit included meetings with industry leaders, government representatives, and research institutions, underscoring the shared ambition to accelerate the energy transition in Europe.
Cluster-to-Cluster Collaboration
BCC-NL met with the Czech Battery Cluster, represented by General Manager Jan Vejbor, to exchange insights and explore opportunities for joint innovation. Both clusters are members of BEPA (Battery European Partnership Association), reinforcing their commitment to European battery value chain development. The session featured company pitches from Dutch and Czech businesses, fostering new connections and potential partnerships.
Policy Dialogue with Czech Ministry of Transport
Discussions centered on the Czech government’s e-mobility strategy, deployment of EV charging infrastructure, and synergies between transport and energy sectors. These conversations highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation to meet EU clean mobility targets.
Research and Innovation at CEITEC
The delegation visited CEITEC, a leading research center with advanced battery testing facilities. This visit showcased Czech expertise in battery degradation studies and opened doors for collaborative R&D projects.
Industry Insights from Škoda Auto
At Škoda’s factory in Mladá Boleslav, participants toured the battery assembly line, which produces 1,580 battery packs daily. In 2024, Škoda delivered 227,000 traction batteries for EVs based on the MEB platform and 53,600 batteries for plug-in hybrids. The company reached a milestone of 1 million battery systems produced since 2019, serving Škoda and other Volkswagen Group brands such as Volkswagen, Audi, and SEAT/CUPRA.
Toyota’s Future in Kolín
The visit concluded at Toyota’s plant in Kolín, where plans are underway to produce the first full-electric Toyota vehicles in Europe. A €680 million investment will expand the facility with new battery assembly lines, marking a major step for Czechia in the global EV market.

Impact for BCC-NL and the European Battery Ecosystem
These engagements strengthen the position of BCC-NL and its partners in the European battery ecosystem. By connecting with Czech industry leaders and policymakers, BCC-NL contributes to shaping a sustainable future for mobility and energy storage.
