Dutch Battery Mission Opens at InterBattery 2026 in Seoul

“Impact is not determined by size — it is driven by ambition and collaboration.” With this message, Mustafa Amhaouch, Director of the Battery Competence Cluster NL (BCC-NL) and delegation lead, officially opened the Dutch battery mission to South Korea today during InterBattery 2026.
Immediately after the opening, the VIP delegation — attended by Vice Minister Moon Shin-hak of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) — made its first official visit to the Netherlands Pavilion.
Strong Dutch Representation in Seoul
Alongside BCC-NL, a broad Dutch delegation of startups, industry partners and knowledge institutions has travelled to Seoul to gain a deeper understanding of the Korean battery ecosystem and to explore new collaborations across the full battery value chain — from materials and components to production and recycling. South Korea is one of the five focus countries of BCC-NL, where intensive work is underway to strengthen sustainable and strategic cooperation in battery technology.
High-Level VIP Visit to the Netherlands Pavilion
Among those present during the VIP visit were:
- Moon Shin-hak, Vice Minister MOTIE
- Lee Cheol-gyu, Chair National Assembly Committee on Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups
- Eom Gi-cheon, President Korea Battery Industry Association / CEO POSCO Future M
- representatives of LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, SK On, LS Electric, EcoPro BM, Korea Zinc, L&F, and Umicore
The delegation was welcomed by Ambassador Peter van der Vliet and the team of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Korea.
Ambition and Collaboration as Drivers of Impact
In his opening remarks, Mustafa Amhaouch emphasised that the Netherlands — as #2 in innovation within the EU — has repeatedly demonstrated that when it commits to strategic technologies, it can create real global impact, as seen in semiconductors and food technology. With the same ambition and commitment, the Dutch ecosystem is now focusing on battery technology.
Dutch Innovators Showcasing at the Pavilion
The Netherlands Pavilion features contributions from: Battery Competence Cluster - NL, BOM, CarbonX, E‑MAGY, INNER, LionVolt, Powall, SCM – Software for Chemistry & Materials, Sioux Technologies, SparkNano, Thionics, TNO, and VDL Mobility Innovation Centre.
Throughout InterBattery 2026, they will showcase how Dutch innovations contribute to a future-proof battery value chain and demonstrate the power of open collaboration for technological breakthroughs.
Appreciation and Outlook
BCC-NL expresses its appreciation to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Korea for the excellent organisation of the mission. The mission is supported by RVO, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (I&W) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (EZ). BCC-NL looks forward to the remainder of InterBattery 2026 and the company visits planned for next week.
