Launched on Monday 26 January: Four innovation programmes for batteries within the National Technology Strategy. On behalf of BCC-NL we were present at the NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam for the launch of the action agendas for the National Technology Strategy. In the presence of Vincent Karremans, representing the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and representatives from a wide range of companies and ecosystems, an important step was taken for the Dutch battery sector.

Within the NTS domain Energy Materials, four innovation programmes for batteries were presented. These programmes were developed through intensive collaboration between companies, knowledge institutions and ecosystems, with active involvement from BCC-NL. The Energy Materials domain was chaired by Auke Jisk Kronemeijer (TNO Holst).

The four innovation programmes for batteries

  1. Acceleration of equipment industrialisation for the production of sustainable battery materials. Focused on scaling up production technology and equipment for sustainable battery materials.
  2. Digital optimisation of battery production processes. Aimed at digitalisation and data-driven improvement of efficiency and quality in production.
  3. Dutch battery cell production infrastructure. Development of the facilities and infrastructure required to anchor battery cell production in the Netherlands.
  4. Strategic innovation chain for battery technology. Strengthening collaboration across the entire value chain, from research and development to application.

The direction and coordination of the NTS process are in the hands of KIA ST, in collaboration with Holland High Tech. André Schilt (programme lead) and Mustafa Amhaouch (director) attended on behalf of BCC-NL.

Looking ahead

In the coming period, the four NTS innovation programmes for batteries will be integrated into the national battery action agenda, which is currently under development. They will serve as essential building blocks for a coherent, long-term approach that brings together policy, innovation and industrial scale-up.

BCC-NL remains committed to strengthening this collaboration and contributing to a future-proof battery ecosystem for the Netherlands — moving from strategy to concrete implementation.
