Dutch overview of battery test facilities

The increase in battery research and development in the Netherlands creates an increasing need to test and certify batteries. The Netherlands has great ambitions in particular in the field of battery development for heavy vehicles and vessels (such as buses, trucks and boats) and stationary storage. That is why an overview of the testing possibilities in the Netherlands is of great importance.

Platform for overview

The Battery Competence Cluster – NL has set up a platform to provide insight and overview of the various, existing, open test facilities in the Netherlands. By creating an overview, companies can see where they can test their products and systems. In this way, parties are better connected to each other and the testing and certification needs can be met better. On the platform you will find test facilities and knowledge about battery materials, battery systems and recycling, for heavy transport, non-road applications, vessels ans stationairy storage. You can also see here which types of tests can be taken at which test facilities.

Next steps

The overview is a result of the first study carried out by the partners TNO and ELEO within the BCC-NL. Ronald van den Putte of TNO says: "The BCC-NL is a knowledge platform for the battery ecosystem. By mapping the test facilities, we create value for many parties in the ecosystem." A follow-up study will look at how commercial companies and knowledge institutions can share their test facilities with external parties in order to offer an interesting proposition to companies and customers in the battery value chain. Research questions are, for example: What is the market need to share test facilities? What are the possible cost structures for sharing test facilities between market parties? And also: How can test facilities be connected to each other?

Already operating, open test facilities can be added to the overview. For this, the test facility can contact the BCC-NL (info@batterycompetencecluster.nl)
